Charles I was executed for supposedly committing reason against his own country ( England) however the court who decided his fate were all against him, 135 people were invited to the courtroom to be the deciders of his fate but only 68 people turned up which shows that a lot of people didn't think it was right to put him on trial. In the end Charles was executed on the 30th of January 1649. Hope this helps, it came from the top of my head as Iearnt in history years ago, but I assure you it is reliable. :)
The main reasons for Charles I's execution were:
- He was seen as betraying his country.
- He changed the Church.
- He married a Catholic.
- He dissolved Parliament.
- He raised taxes.
