The Bourbon Reforms, which changed the colonial system to that of an intendancy. The Ilustrados were educated Filipino elites who played a significant role in the Philippine independence movement during the late 19th century. They were advocates for political reforms, social progress, and Filipino nationalism, and many of them studied and were exposed to European liberal ideas which influenced their ideas for independence from Spanish colonial rule.
