The short term effects of the French Revolution: an unstable economy (inability to collect taxes), loss of hierarchy (1st, 2nd, 3rd estate dissolved, de-unification of France (Normandy, Brittany, Gironde, Franch-comte, Duaphine, Provence), war with neighbors (every nation besides Russia).
Some of the short term effects were that the monarchy was immediately placed out of power. Most would put this as an long term effect, bit it is not considering this zagged outcome of the revolution. After Napoleon was exiled to a remote island, the french people were in such distress that they actually placed a king back in power! As you can see, this was not a long term effect.
The Reign of Terror. Soon after the French Revolution, the Reign of Terror ended.
