What where the weaknesses of turkey in World War 1?

Turkey (or to be more precise, the Ottoman Empire) was an ally of Germany. It fought mainly against the British and also against the Russians (in the Caucasus). Given its geographical position the Ottoman Empire was a potential threat to links between Britain and India (and the Far East). It was also a potential threat (of sorts anyway) to British oil supplies from the Persian Gulf.

Turkey was called the 'sick man of Europe' with good reason. The Ottoman empire was becoming dramatically smaller, both in the Balkan states & in the Middle East. Despite their repelling the Galippoli landings the Turks had little success in WW1: Although the Armenian Massacre cannot be seen as anything but an example of genocide on a massive scale. Siding with the Central Powers did not improve Turkeys lot, and they were neutral in WW2.

• The lost generation. So many of the marriage age men were lost to the war it is known as the lost generation
• The general Public's innocence in regards to war and glory.
