How do you get admission to a college or university?

To gain admission to a college or university, the most basic thing you must do is to submit an application for admission. You will generally have to have your secondary school mail in your transcripts as well. Some colleges and universities require your scores from a test such as the ACT, SAT, and/or TOEFL if you are an international student. The necessary materials vary from school to school, so you must check with them. After the school receives all that they have asked of you, they will begin reviewing your material and possibly comparing it with that of other students. If they like what they see, they may send you a letter of acceptance. Some competitive schools require that all new students complete an interview with the dean of students or a similar authority figure. If all goes well, they will send an official letter of acceptance. What you need to do to gain admission varies from school to school, and many colleges and universities post an outline of the entire admissions process on their websites. This answer can be a guideline, but you should always double check with your school of choice.

The application process will vary from university to university - you will have to get specific instructions from the university's office of admissions. You could also try email or snail mail, but since you are already late in applying, telephone would be the recommended form of communication.

Consider these tipsPrepare ahead of timeThe further ahead you can prepare the better. If you are still in high school, start making your college plans now, starting with the college you want to attend. After that, determine what scholarships they accept. You must be fully prepared for their admissions process, especially since many schools have their own type of admissions. You should apply for school during the middle of your senior year, and keep in contact with the college admissions guides.
