The transmission may need a flush and filter, or in my 92 accord I solved the problem merely by changing the transmissions computer.
There are several things that can cause your Honda Accord station wagon automatic transmission not to shift down. The most common cause is low transmission fluid.
your cluch could be gone!
The primary cause for the drive light to flash on a Honda Accord is a malfunction in the transmission. Error codes from the vehicle's computer can be read using an OBDII reader.
Depends on what the problem is. One warning I can provide. Use only genuine Honda ATF fluid in your Accord. The use of any other fluid will cause problems. I suggest you seek out a professional to repair the transmission.
1988 accord will not go into 5 gear
Computer has detected a problem with the transmission.
The S light means you have the transmission in Sport Mode. This will cause the transmission to delay shifting to a slightly higher RPM.
Possibly someone has poured in the wrong transmission fluid. If you do not use Honda ATF-Z1 it will cause shifting problems. Here is what your Honda Owner's manual says. "Always use Honda ATF-Z1 (Automatic Transmission Fluid). If it is not available, you may use a DEXRON III automatic transmission fluid as a temporary replacement. However, continued use can affect shift quality. Have the transmission flushed and refilled with Honda ATF-Z1 as soon as convenient." So make darn sure you have Honda ATF-ZI fluid in the tranny. If this is not the problem seek professional help.
check the fluid level. if it is low it ill cause the tran. to shift late
The transmission could have been rebuilt improperly, or the linkage could have been reinstalled incorrectly.
Honda specifies the use of genuine Honda ATF Z1 only. Any substitute may cause shifting problems. I would not use any other fluid period. Synthetic may be fine but I am not 100% sure so my advice is stick with Honda ATF Z1. You can ask your Honda dealer, but if he say use synthetic get it in writing or your warranty may be void.
Likely your transmission is dying. Google "odyssey transmission" and you will find lots of reports about problems with 2000- 2004 Odyssey transmissions. If you are persistent enough, Honda might help some with the repair.
