One Estimate Due to great variations in the calendars used in different records, it is simply not possible to be 100% certain of the exact year.

Jesus was born a short while before Herod the Great died, whose death the historian Josephus fixes at 4 BC.

According to Matthew, Herod had all boys under 2 years old slaughtered. So in all liklihood, Jesus was born between 6 and 4 BC. According to interpretations of the gospels, Jesus' crucifixion occurred when He was 31-33 years old. So He probably died in 25-29 AD. There is no year zero in the Gregorian calendar.

As to the specific day of the year, according to the gospel of Luke, angels announced Jesus' birth to shepherds guarding their flocks by night. While some scholars believe that this rules out winter, others contend that sheep around Bethlehem were kept in fields year round. These were lambs used for sacrifices in the temple. They would be slaughtered in early spring.

Hippolytus in 2 AD, asserted that December 25th was Jesus Christ's birthday. In the Eastern church, January 6th was observed as His birthday. In 4 AD John Chrysostom insisted that December 25th was the correct day. Since then, the Eastern church has followed the same day as the church in the West. While we can't be certain of the exact day, there is no reason not to celebrate on the traditional day.

In addition, it is to be noted that Jesus birth is at the beginning of Jesus' earthly life. In the gospel of John, we learn that Jesus (the Word) was, and was with God, and was God "In the beginning." So Jesus has existed since the beginning of time.

Another answer from our community:

No day of the year was assigned to his birth until the fourth century, when 25th December was chosen, to deflect interest away from the birth of the Roman god Mithras, which also took place on December 25th.

Another answer:

The most common traditions for the death of Jesus are the years 30 CE, based on information in the Synoptic Gospels, or 33 CE, based on information in John's Gospel. The Synoptic Gospels state that the feast of the Passover fell on a Thursday, while John says that the feast of the Passover fell on a Friday. Changes to the calendars in use have made the exact date of Passover uncertain in the first century CE, so there is some uncertainty as to which years the Passover feast would have fallen on either a Thursday or a Friday. Also, Luke suggests that the mission of Jesus began in 28 CE or shortly thereafter, and the Synoptic Gospels imply a mission of less than one year. John's Gospel tells us that the mission of Jesus lasted for three years.

Dates for His birth are most likely between 4 b.c and 1 b.c, a.d, His death being therefore between 30 and 33 a.d.

Another answer:

According to research done by the worldwide Christian radio ministry which has decoded the Biblical Timeline of history exclusively from the Holy Bible & by synchronizing our modern day Gregorian calendar with the Hebrew calendar & Patriarchial calendar & lunar calendar & solar calendar used in previous centuries; it has been determined with Biblical accuracy that Jesus of Nazareth or Jesus Christ was born on Earth as a human on October 2nd, 7 B.C. He was announced by John the Baptist on September 26, A.D. 29. He was crucified on Mount Calvary on April 1, A.D. 33 (what we call April Fool's Day in modern times). He was resurrected & glorified on April 3, A.D. 33. The Holy Spirit was poured out on the day of Pentecost which was May 22, A.D. 33 which was the beginning of the church age.

These dates are considered totally accurate & factual from the Holy Bible by millions of believers worldwide. Seekers of truth should do their due diligence by researching the Holy Bible for themselves & lining up these recently uncovered dates with Scripture.

The real day is not known, but December 25th is celebrated as Christmas and Goodfriday as the day Jesus died.

Based on Biblical reckoning and secular history, Jesus was likely born in the month of Ethanim (September-October) of the year 2 B.C.E. and died about 3:00 p.m. on Friday, the 14th day of the spring month of Nisan (March-April), 33 C.E. (Matthew 26:2; John 13:1-3; Exodus 12:1-6; 13:4)

An estimate of the years of birth and death of Jesus can be based on the historical facts around Matthew's Gospel.
Matthew says that Herod was concerned about a Zoroastrian prophecy that a king of the Jews was to be born. Herod died as an old man in 4 BCE. He demonstrated that he was not overly concerned about Archelaus succeeding him. In fact he recommended to the Romans that Archelaus only succeed him in the territory of Judea, with his other sons succeeding him in other territories that Rome had granted Herod. So, any threat that worried Herod must have seemed to be a threat to his own rule. If he died in 4 BCE as an old man, the birth of Jesus must have taken place some years before this time, when Herod was still young enough to expect to rule for several more years and to worry about Jesus growing up and challenging him. So, Matthew suggests that Jesus was born well before 4 BCE, very possibly before 10 BCE.

We know that Pontius Pilate was governor of Judaea from 26 CE to 36 CE. The crucifixion is said to have occurred during the governership of Pilate and is commonly assumed to have occurred about 30 CE. Some place it as late as 33 CE because his mission is described over a longer period of time in John's Gospel.

Some Bible students point to the Fall Feast of Trumpets - the 1st day of the 7th month on the Hebrew calendar - between mid September to mid October of the year 4 BC. These commonly believe Jesus died on the Cross in the late afternoon of Passover Wednesday, 25 April 31 AD.

King Herod the Great died in April 4 BCE, so if Jesus was born during his reign, he would have been born on or before 5 BCE. However, Matthew implies that Jesus was born some years earlier. If Jesus was born during the census of Quirinius, he was born after 6 CE, when Quirinius became governor of Syria and the first census took place.

No day of the year was assigned to his birth until the fourth century, when 25th December was chosen, to deflect interest away from the birth of the Roman god Mithras, which also took place on December 25th.
