It is perfectly fine as long as the older cat doesn't need a specialized food like for hairballs or weight-loss. Cats are actually kittens until they are 3 years old. My cat will be 4 in Spring, but still eats Kitten Chow often because it gives him lots of energy and he loves it. To save money and time, you can give a cat younger food. But when he/she is a lot older, definitly give it grown-cat food.

Kittens usually begin the weaning process around 4-6 weeks of age. They begin by taking an interest, or picking at their mother's solid food. At this age they will still be suckling and getting nutrients from their mother, but putting a tiny bit of wet food down every few hours will entice them to eat. You could see if they will lick food off your fingertip or off their own paws. This first stage can take several days.

Try mashing up some good quality wet/canned food (look for a brand with a high named meat content and no grain, such as Felidae or Blue Buffalo to avoid tummy upsets) for them. Mixing the food with a little bit of KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer) at first helps the kittens get used to solid food.

Mushed up wet food, or wet food that is throughly mixed with a little water or kitten milk is the best type of food for them right now. It is easy for them to eat and digest. It is advisable not to try dry food as, even softened with water, kittens may still not be able to eat it. Be sure to feed them from a plate and not a bowl, as it is easier for the kittens to pick up the food.

Gradually, over the course of several weeks, decrease the amount of water/milk in the food as the kittens become more confident with eating. The weaning transition should not be rushed.

No, but kitten food has nutrients and fibers in it that are helping a kitten to grow, so if you give a grown cat kitten food they will have pretty smelly diarrhea.

Is it bad when a kittens first solid food is meat?

As long as it is not a processed meat, such as hot dogs, bologna, etc.ADD:To expand: No, its not bad at all if a kitten's first solid bit of food is meat! In fact, this is probably the best start the kitten can get! Provided it was unprocessed meat, it should be just fine. Cats are carnivores and are designed to eat meat and get all their nutrients from it.It will not harm the kitten at all if you give it bits of plain chicken or other poultry meat as a treat from its usual food.

Why is milk bad for cats?

It gives them worms.Improved Answer:Due to the lactose that is present in cow's milk, some cats cannot digest it properly so can get sick from ingesting it. It does not, however, give a cat worms. Specially formulated cat milk does not have lactose in so is perfectly safe to give to a kitten or cat.

What would cause a newborn kitten an odor from the mouth and urine?

What would cause a bad odor on the kittens after being born, that would cause them to die quickly?

Your kitten has a fever and is sleeping a lot wount play eat or do anything he was fine yesterday he drake a littel milk but that's about it what can you do don't have the money for the vet.?

I have a kitten at home right now that some how got hurt while playing while I was at work, he has a fever, I took him to the Vet he was given antibiotic and he was given fluids. If you don't have any cash for your kitten, I would suggest to keep him hydrated, give him water, you can probably get a syringe, (no needle of course) get some fresh cold water fill the syringe and give it to the kitten right corner of his mouth, place cold ice packs under a blanket wrapped with paper towels and let the kitten sleep on top of the blanket, do not place the kitten under direct contact, make sure you make at least two layers of the blanket, this will help him/her not overheat, the most important thing is to keep your kitten hydrated. Hopefully his/her body will eventually come out of whatever is going through. But seriously you should see if you can find out from your friends of neighbors if anyone knows any vet that would be reasonable. Take up a collection at work if you need, I know with the economy so bad out of shape money is very tight, but if you have a pet you owe him/her good care.

Can you give your four month old kittens milk?

No, in fact cats in general should not drink milk. They do not have the enzyme needed to properly process milk in their digestive systems, so it usually just causes stomach upset and diarrhea.

What happens if you feed a 4 week old kitten tuna?

If the kitten ate it willingly, nothing bad should happen. A 4 week old kitten is just at the very earliest stages of weaning, so don't start feeding it solid food only at this point, he/she still needs to nurse regularly.
