Space food was invented during the early 1960s which were semi-liquid and could only be eaten by sucking through a straw. By 1965, the food was more palatable with wider variety such as turkey bite and butterscotch pudding.

Yes there is. Food on earth has a lot of water content in it, which makes up for a lot of its mass. Space food has been dehydrated to remove as much water from it as possible to make it lighter. This helps with the weight of the space shuttles.
