Well, it was originally called Armistice Day, which was first celebrated on November 11, 1919. It was meant to honor those that died in World War I. Then, on June 1 1954, the word Armistice was changed to Veteran's day.

So, I suppose you can argue that it was either 1919 or 1954.

Veteran's day is not celebrated on Mondays, unless November 11 happens to be a Monday. Veteran's day was originally Armistice day and is celebrated on November 11.

Armistice day was created to celebrate the signing of the armistice (a truce) between the Allies and Germany at the end of World War I. The armistice was signed at 11:00 a.m. on November 11, 1918, or "the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month."

After World War II, the name was changed to "Veteran's day." It is still celebrated on the same day as Armistice day.

Sometimes schools will celebrate it on a Monday if Veteran's day was on the Saturday or Sunday before.

Veteran's Day is a Federal Holiday. It is a day that President Woodrow Wilson set aside to mark the end of WW1 & the signing of the Armistice between the powers in WW1. Wilson wanted the nation to honor the brave soldiers who fought and died in the first great war. This holiday was proclaimed by Wilson on November 11, 1919.
