The final Treaty was the Treaty of Lausanne, which brought to an official end the war between the Allied Powers and Turkey, August 23, 1923.

An armistice (ceasefire) came into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. The name "Armistice Day" was given to the date when a truce was declared and fighting ceased. Strictly speaking the war ended for Germany with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June 1919. (That was exactly five years after Austria-Hungary's Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo). At 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918 a ceasefire came into effect with Germany. A formal state of war between the two sides persisted for another seven months, until signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919. A final peace treaty was signed between the Allied Powers and the country that would shortly become the Republic of Turkey, at Lausanne on July 24, 1923. The name "Armistice Day" has since been changed to "Veteran's Day" (USA) (November 11). It was also known as "Rememberance Day" in Canada. "Poppy Day" (originally in South Africa and New Zealand) was another name so chosen because The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion and other organizations all over the world lay poppy wreaths upon the graves of members of the armed forces who were killed in war. Many died in the beautiful poppy fields of Europe, most notably "In Flanders fields the poppies blow ... We shall not sleep, though poppies grow. ...."(from In Flander's Fields by Lieutenant Colonel John Alexander McCrae, MD of the Canadian Army). Poppy flowers are also sold, and worn, to raise funds for soldiers killed in wars.

When did World War 2 start and end?

By a well established convention the dates are generally given as 1September 1939 to 2 September 1945. The Second World War has start and end points that differ slightly, depending on national perspectives and on what part of the world isbeing described. In Europe, the war began with Hitler's attack onPoland, September 1st, 1939. Britain and France had defensetreaties with Poland regarding a possible German attack, anddeclared war on Germany two days later. The US was drawn into the war late in 1941 after Pearl Harbor. TheSoviet Union had participated in the invasion of Poland as an allyof Nazi Germany. After its Nazi ally turned against it and invadedin June of 1941 the Soviet Union became allied with the Britishagainst Germany. The French had been defeated by Germany in 1940,and were neutral until liberated in 1944. The Second World War inEurope and North Africa ended with Germany's surrender in May,1945. In much of Asia, the war began when Japan attacked China in 1937,but it was not until 1941 that the US and Britain entered the waragainst Japan, after the Japanese attacked the US Pacific Fleet atPearl Harbor in Hawaii, and began the invasion of the Philippines,a US colony at the time, and British and Dutch colonies in Asia. Some Asian colonies of the defeated and German controlled Frenchhad already been occupied by Japan, which had become an ally ofGermany and Italy. The three nations were referred to as the Axis. The Soviet Union, which extended far into Asia, focused all its wareffort on fighting Germany, and did not enter the war against Japanuntil August, 1945, only weeks before the Japanese capitulation. The Second World War in the Pacific and mainland Asia ended withJapan's acceptance of surrender terms in August, 1945, shortlyafter the US dropped two atomic bombs on Japan, one on the city ofHiroshima and, a few days later, another on Nagasaki. In the Pacific, the US carried the brunt of the war. In Europe, theSoviet Union fought Germany almost alone, and eventually carriedthe war into Germany at great cost to itself. The US and Britaincontributed to the war effort in Europe by bombing Germany, invading North Africa and Italy, and finally invading France inJune of 1944, less than a year before Germany collapsed. The SovietUnion was Germany's principal enemy, accounting for nearly 90% ofall German battle deaths during WW2. The dates most often seen in history texts about WWII give thedates as 1939 to 1945, disregarding the fact that China and Japanhad been at war since 1937. The starting date of WW2 is in someways a matter of perspective and regional bias. China regards 1937as the start of the war, when Japan launched a full scale invasion. The war became truly global as the major powers gradually drewtheir supporters into the conflict. Most of the military aspects of WW2 ended in Europe on May 8th 1945when German forces surrendered. In Asia and the Pacific most of thefighting ended after August 15th 1945 when Japan accepted surrenderterms, formally signed on September 2nd, 1945, when the Americanoccupation began. WW1 started:- 28th June 1914 finished:- 11th November 1918 WW2 started:- 1st September 1939 finished:- 2nd September 1945 ww2 started in the year 1939 and finished in the year 1945. Britain declared war on SEPT 3RD 1939. World war 2 is still currently going on because moshi monsters are laying eggs everywhere, which contain stink bombs and exploading every-ones fake tan bottles, which is a political crisis. 1935 to 1945 it started at 1939 and end at 1945 hey r u ok hey r u ok hey r u ok Basically September 1939 to September 1945 & yes, I am fine, thanks The accepted official dates are from 1 September 1939 until 15 August 1945 although there was fighting going on in various countries from 1936 onwards. World War 2 officially began September 1, 1939 with the Germaninvasion of Poland. In 1938, Germany had annexed Austria andoccupied ethnically-divided Czechoslovakia. Italy had been fightingin Ethiopia since 1936, and Japan in China since 1937. It officially ended September 2nd, 1945 when German forces finallysurrendered to the allies. ANSWER : September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland, and war officiallybegan. September 2, 1945, Japan surrendered to Allied powers, andwar officially ended. How did World War 2 start and end?

Answer . WW-2 began with Germany's invasion of Poland on 01 September 1939 and ended with the Japanese surrender on the USS Missouri on 02 September 1945. What Started WW2 The question "How did World War 2 start?" or "What started World War 2?" can be considered distinct from "What caused World War 2?" For the latter, see the Related Question link to the right. There are many views on exactly when and where World War 2 started, and what started it.. The War in Europe One view is that there was only one world war. It started in 1914 and finished in 1945, with a break from 1918-1939 while the Germans regrouped. (Kaiser Wilhelm was very similar to Hitler: a hate-filled expansionist with vissions of world domination.) More commonly, people believe World War 2 started in 1939. On August 31, 1939, Hitler and the Nazis staged a Polish attack on a minor German radio station in order to justify a German invasion of Poland. On September 1, Hitler declared war on Poland stating one of his reasons for the invasion was because of "the attack by regular Polish troops on the Gleiwitz transmitter." France and Britain had a defensive pact with Poland. This forced France and Britain to declare war on Germany, which they did on September 3.. The War in the Pacific Some say World War 2 started in late 1931 with the Japanese invasion of Manchuria. This is sometimes referred to as the Mukden Incident. The major invasion of China by Japan was in 1937. Japan had long been coveting mainland resources, invading China and (en route) Korea for centuries. Under the guise of The Co-Prosperity Sphere (8-Lands Under One Umbrella), Japan plotted an imperial takeover of Asia and the Pacific in the style of Western imperialism less than a century earlier. The US opposed this movement and placed embargoes on Japan. Searching for supplies and rebelling against US intervention, Japan embarked on its Oriental conquest. Hoping to keep the US Air Force out of Japan's way, Admiral Yamamoto led the attack on Pearl Harbor. Unfortunatley they opened fire 30 minutes before the proclamation of war was officially delivered, so many viewed it as a violation of military convention (Adm. Yamamoto regretted this fact; he admired Western military practices). Note that one reason many people say WWII started in 1939 by Hitler's invasion of Poland instead of by Japan in 1937 is because the former is the moment when the first main Allied nation declared war on an Axis nation (Britain declares war on Germany). Rather than be specific and say the first shots of origin started with Japan's invasion, it is pointed out that no main Allied nation had declared war at that time.. The War in Africa Some people consider the war in Africa as starting with the 1935 invasion of Ethiopia by Italy.. the war started whe Germany invaded Poland in 1939 war was declared.

World War 1 and how it started?

First, we have Austria-Hungary. Franz Josef and then his grandson the archduke Franz Ferdinand. Franz Ferdinand gained control of portions of the Balkan Peninsula (i.e. Bosnia). So he and his wife, Sophie, went to Bosnia and basically tried to get them to "be happy" under Austrian-Hungarian rule. Just the opposite happened...on June 28, 1914, Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serb named Princip. See, Serbia was trying to protect Bosnia. None of the countries in the Balkan Peninsula wanted to be ruled by stronger foreign nations, so they were all helping each other win independence (even if they had to assassinate someone!). After Franz Ferdinand died, a new leader ruled Austria, and declared war on Serbia because a Serb had killed Ferdinand. Russia had always been friends with Serbia, so it supported them. Austria-Hungary sent out an "ultimatium" to Serbia, saying that they had to agree to certain policies because they had caused so much trouble and had killed their former ruler. Serbia wanted to negotiate to certain terms of the ultimatium, but Austria-Hungary was SO against that. That's why they declared war on Serbia. This got Russia involved too. AND Austria-Hungary and Germany were allies through the Triple Alliance. So when Russia and Serbia started fighting with Austria-Hungary, they were basically fighting with Germany as well. Soon enough, Germany declared war on Russia. At this point, Russia was allies with Great Britain and France through the Triple Entente. The tiny conflict in the Balkan Peninsula got SO many different countries involved in what soon became the First World War (then known as the Great War). The Triple Alliance of Germany and Austria-Hungary became known as the Central Powers and grew to include Bulgaria and the remaining Ottoman Empire. Also, the Triple Entente of Russia, Great Britain, and France became known as the Allied Powers and grew to include Japan, Italy, and the United States. Hope that helps!

How did the end of World War 1 prepare Germany for the start of World War 2?

When WWI ended, Germany had to pay $33 billion in reparations and were economically and territorially ruined. They were deprived of all of their new land and were in poor shape. Then, Adolf Hitler came along and tried to take charge of Germany. He did this successfully, because all of Germany's people would listen to any good leader. So, Hitler started to rebuild Germany and it's army. Then in 1939, Hitler invaded Poland, starting WWII

World War 1 was started by the?

This could be argued many different ways. First, Serbia could be said to be the spark that ignited the powder keg (so to speak) because it was a Serb who assassinated Franz Ferdinand, which led to the Austo-Hungarian hostilities. Secondly, Austro-Hungary could be blamed, because they threatened Serbia after Franz's death. Serbia never set out to provoke a war with Austro-Hungary, it was just a disgruntled group of Nationlists wanting to make a point. Thirdly, it could not have been a world war if there weren't a dozen different alliance pacts floating around with the other countries. Russia was supposed to protect Serbia in the event of war, so they joined with Serbia. Then Germany joined with Austro-Hungary and France joined with Russia and Britain was allied with France etc. It was just a mess basically. I suppose you could blame Gavrilo Princip (the guy who shot Franz) but he never meant to start a war. He just wanted to show he didn't appreciate Austro-Hungarian rule.

The war started in the summer of 1914 when the heir to theAustro-Hungarian throne was murdered by a Bosnian man. The Bosnianwas part of a rebel group that was helped by Serbian intelligenceagents; Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia because of this. Thewar spread because of the alliances involved- Serbia was alliedwith Russia, so Russia joined in. But Austria-Hungary was alliedwith Germany, so Germany joined too. Germany knew that Russia andFrance were allies, so Germany also declared war on France. And soon, until just about everyone was involved. The war ended in November 1918 when Germany surrendered. To make along story short-ish: Both sides were exhausted after four years of brutal warfare.Although Russia had been forced to quit the war when they had apair of revolutions in 1917, fresh American troops helped tip thebalance in favor of the Allies. Countries like the Ottoman Empireand Austria-Hungary could no longer sustain the war, and theirgovernments collapsed, forcing them to quit fighting too. In the end, Germany was left fighting the war almost on their own.The Allies were beating the Germans, and were close to invadingGermany. When Germany's emperor ordered his navy to make a suicidalattack on the British navy, the German navy instead mutinied. Themutiny grew and spread until Germany had its own revolution, andthe emperor was forced to flee the country. The emperor was quicklyreplaced by a president, who sent a representative to France tosurrender, thus ending the war.
