This questioner has made an error. Germany did not attempt to destroy Pearl Harbor. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor with the intent of destroying most of the USA's Pacific fleet. The main part of the fleet however was out on maneuvers at the time. Nevertheless, many ships were destroyed.
