The first serious RAF (British ) raid was an attempt to bomb the German navy at Wihelmshafen in December 1939. It was a disaster because Prime Minister Chamberlain had isssued strict orders that the RAF was not to bomb private property (!)

I don't want to erase the other answer, but if you count the beginning of WW2 being September 1st with the invasion of Poland. Then the first bombing raid in Germany would be by a squadron of PZL 23's in a factory in Ohlau on the 2nd of September 1939.

∙ 15y agoHi, I'm doing research on this stuff for a book. The last air raid was by the V2 rocket (the second generation after the V1, or doodlebug). This information is from Bromley Council. Ivy WAS the last civillian casualty of war, not one of... ... the last V2 rocket of the war to fall on British soil hit Court Road, Orpington on March 27th 1945. The only casualty was Ivy Millichamp, who was also one of the last British civilians to be killed by enemy action. Hope that helps! Tye Blitz was in 1941, which were the air raids that most people think of. The V1 and V2 were a different kind of air raid.
