It was actually in 1681. After being discovered, merely a centry ago

The dodo bird was very easy to catch. Due to this fact people, dogs, rats, even pigs, would hunt and kill the bird indiscriminately and eat its eggs. this meant the only 200 years after the bird was discovered, it became extinct.
