Jehovah's Witnesses don't know if 2012 will be the end of the world. When Jesus was asked when the "conclusion of this system"would be ("end of the world" - King James Translation) he said at Matthew 24:36 that nobody knew the date. The sign he gave in Matthew 24:3-14 (especially verse 14) matches our time very well. The Witnesses certainly think the end of this system is not far away. Note (as mentioned in verse 14) this would be "good news". The witnesses understand "the end of the world" to be the end of this corrupt system ruled by Satan. Not the end of the planet or humankind as is often meant when people talk of "the end of the world". Following the end, God's Kingdom will govern mankind. They look forward to such a change with hope, not dread.

Not the actual planet Earth but, Jehovah's Witnesses believe that very soon, within the lifetime of the generation of people that knew the generation of people that saw the year 1914, the world of non Witnesses will end.

The Watchtower 1st Sept 1989 page 19 says that ''Only Jehovah's Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the 'great crowd', as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil.''

They believe that Jehovah God will destroy the world of people and their Satanic led systems but not the actual physical Earth which they believe will last forever.

The Watchtower 15th May 2006 page 22 says ''....survival of individuals today depends on their faith and loyal association with the earthly part of Jehovah's universal organization''

No, Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe this planet will ever be destroyed. The believe there will never be an end to the world or life on it. They firmly believe however that there will be a time when the Creator intervene in human affairs and destroy wicked people establishing a new system or governmental administration over this present planet.

It is this "end" to human rulership and a start to divine government direct from heaven through Jesus Christ that Jehovah's Witnesses call the "end of the system of things" and have been preaching about in their public ministry.

The latest prediction dates from the May Watchtower 2011 page 3 which, refering to current world conditions, reads {quote}

"... The Bible predicted such conditions for the period of time called "the last days." [...] the Watchtower goes on to say {quote} "the fulfillment of these six prophecies means that "the last days"will soon end" {end quote}

No date has currently been provided for this final event.

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Armageddon will come

within the lifetime of the generation of people that knew

the generation of people that were alive in 1914.

This stems from a former belief that Armageddon would come

within the lifetime of the generation of people that were alive in 1914.

''as Jesus said, "this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur." (Matt. 24:34) Some of the generation that discerned the beginning of the time of the end in 1914 will still be alive on earth to witness the end of this present wicked system of things at the battle of Armageddon.'' Watchtower 1st May 1968 page 272.

The definition of 'generation' was changed several times until lastly the 15th April 2010 Watchtower page 10 redefined it as,

''How, then, are we to understand Jesus' words about "this generation"? He evidently meant that the lives of the anointed who were on hand when the sign began to become evident in 1914 would overlap with the lives of other anointed ones who would see the start of the great tribulation.''

Jehovah's Witnesses have never predicted an end to all life on the planet. (They have and still do believe that there will one day be an end to wickedness and and start to a new system of rulership over the world) They believed this would come in 1914 and again in 1925 and 1975 but now recognize it is impossible to predict the precise date of this event.

Jehovah's Witnesses still hold however that present world events indicate this event is in the "near" future.

Jahova Witnesses are Christians and they believe what the Bible says about the end times. Jesus warned us to watch for the signs and be alert, He would come like a thief in the night. But nobody knows when the actual day or date that Christ will return. Even Jesus didn't know, only the Father in Heaven.

Based on their most current understanding of Mathew 24:34, Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Armageddon (sometimes linked with the phrase 'end of the world') will occur before the generation of people who knew the generation of people who were alive in 1914 has passed away.

This is confirmed by the Governing Body member Bro Barr as printed in the Watchtower 2010, June 15th page 5, which states,

''He referred to Matthew 24:34, which says: "This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur." He twice read the comment: "Jesus evidently meant that the lives of the anointed ones who were on hand when the sign began to be evident in 1914 would overlap with the lives of other anointed ones who would see the start of the great tribulation." We do not know the exact length of "this generation," but it includes these two groups whose lives overlap. Even though the anointed vary in age, those in the two groups constituting the generation are contemporaries during part of the last days. How comforting it is to know that the younger anointed contemporaries of those older anointed ones who discerned the sign when it became evident beginning in 1914 will not die off before the great tribulation starts!

Jehovah's Witnesses do not know when the end of the world will be.

Mark 13:32, Jesus Christ said: "But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." So if Jesus did not know, then how can Jehovah's Witnesses know. What they do know is that the visible sign of the time of the end is present. Please read Matthew 24. Jesus admonition for all Christians is to remain awake to the events that surround us and to be ready, because we do not know the day or hour. As we wait, one of the features of the sign is being fulfilled by Jehovah's Witnesses in their preaching work. Note Matthew 24:14. You can see the wisdom in not letting people know the time of the end. We would live our lives the way we want and then at the eleventh hour do what God wants.
