Filter-Basically the "normal" setting for your pump. Circulates water from pool to filter and back out again. Backwash-Your filter forms thousand of cages in which suspended particles passing through are caught. When these cages become saturated with dirt the filter must be clean through backwash and the dirt sent out. The pressure gague gives an indication of the pressure accumulated in the filter. Rinse-After backwashing a "rinse" operation is recommended before the filtration mode is restarted to ensure that no dirty water is returned to the pool. Recirculation- In this option the water from the pump will return straight to the pool without going through the filter. Rinse cycle is used to create greater circulation when adding chemicals during periods. Closed-As the name suggests, this closes off the entry of water to the filter and is most normally used when access to the pump pre-filter basket is required. Remember to always stop the pump before changing between any of these positions.

How do use a multi valve pool filter?

Need more specific info A multi valve pool filter is a common configuration of valve and filter for a swimming pool system. The piping into and out of the filter is attached to a multivale. A multivalve has has several positions. One type of multi valve has six positions: backwash, waste, filter, closed, rinse and recirculate. (These valve positions are used on a DE filter. A sand filter may be different.) Use the filter setting in the nromal operation of your pool. This setting receives water from the pump and directs it to the dirty side of the filter media and then receives weater from the clean side and directs it to the pool. Use the Backwash setting to flush the DE from the filter and to a drain. Use the waste setting to flush water directly from the pump to the drain. The closed position is, well, closed. Rinse? Recirculate?

What is the proper order and settings for the valve to back flush a DE filter?

"BACKWASH" THEN RINSE THEN FILTER.K

What are each of these settings for on the filter- filter backwash recirc waste closed and rinse?

Filter setting intakes pool water through the skimmer, sends it through the filter (then heater, if any) and back into the pool. Backwash sends pool water through the filter in reverse and dumps the water out for cleaning purposes. In my experience if pool servicing is overdue you may need to backwash several times, running the filter setting a minute or two (without adding DE) in between each backwash. The filter is not really clean until the water runs clear. Recirculate is a round robin water voyage from skimmer to return port bypassing the filter if the pool is piped for this feature. Waste dumps water from the skimmer without going through the filter. Closed prevents water from entering the filter tank and should not be used with the pump running. It is for winterizing and servicing only. Some pools are piped so that the closed setting is used when vacumming the pool (with pump running). Most pools are piped so that the closing off of water from the filter is accomplished by turning a valve on one of the water lines. Rinse: Runs water through the filter in the normal direction and out the waste hose. This helps the sand to compact back down or the DE to settle back into the mesh before you start cycling back into the pool.

Pool skimmer not working?

Empty the skimmer baskets and the basket that's attached to the pump. Then backwash and rinse the filter.

Why is your pool draining when the pumps are on?

Your sand filter multihead is either in the backwash, rinse, or waste position. Move it to the filtration position.

Should you see water in the sight glass when pump is in filter mode?

No this has waterin it when it is in backwash mode and rinse mode otherwise it is empty.

What does the rinse cycle do during backwash?

The rinse cycle clears the cloudy water out of the system after bacwashing.

What is the difference between the waste rinse and backwash functions on the Haywood DE filter tank and skimmer in terms of how the water flows?

The purpose of the backwash function is just to flush out the filter itself when you see the pressure gauge reading 8-10 lbs higher than the just-cleaned reading. The waste rinse function bypasses the filter and is used to vaccuum debris from the pool straight out into the yard. Use it when the debris is too fine for the filter to remove such as with dead algae.

Do you plug in a hose somewhere before setting to back wash an in ground pool?

Notnormally You may have to top up the water a bit because the back wash process tends to lower the water level of the pool a bit bit no hoses need to be plugged in anywhere as the backwash system is part of the filtration set up. Below I have put in backwash instructions---- back-washing a sand filter sand filter with amultiport valve # Turn of the pump# while pressing down on valve handle, turn it from the FILTER to the BACKWASH position # start the pump # usually there is a clear bubble on or near the multiport valve. it shows the condition of the water. at first the water in it will look dirty when it clears up, turn of the pump.# Turn multiport valve handle to RINSE and Run it rinse for about 30 seconds seconds. # Turn off the pump then move the multiport valve handle to FILTER position # Turn pump back on and note lower pressure. ----Back washing a D.E. filter with a multiport valve; # Turn of the pump# while pressing down on valve handle, turn it from the FILTER to the BACKWASH position # Start the pump# Let the water run for 2 - 3 minutes or until it runs clear. Turn of the pump.# Turn multiport valve handle to RINSE and Run it rinse for about 5 to10 seconds. Turn of the pump.# Move the handle to BACKWASH. Turn on pump again until water runs clear. do this about 3 - 4 times, going from backwash to rinse, Backwash & Rinse, to ensure a thorough backwash. # Turn of the motor and move multiport valve handle back to the FILTER position # Turn pump back on# Add 1 lb D.E. powder per 10 sq ft of filter area. Check on the filter tank. ----

I accidentally vacuumed dirt in my pool using backwash mode instead of waste mode. How do I get the dirt out from under the sand?

There wont be any dirt under the sand. When you vacuum your pool you should do it on filter mode Otherwise you will lose a lot of water for nothing, this would be especially wasteful in the case of a salt water pool. Ofter having vacuumed the pool on filter mode and if the pressure gets too high backwash. after backwash rinse for a minute, then return to filter.

NOTE Do not use TSP with Baquacil or Soft Swim for sanitation.----
