Most reconstituted antibiotic suspensions are good for about 10-14 days when kept under refrigeration (check labels on bottle to be sure).

If it is the pill form instead of liquid, it will be good for at least six months. Just be sure to store them away from heat and moisture, such as in the bathroom or kitchen. But since you should always take the full round of antibiotics prescribed, there should be none left over.

If you stop taking antibiotics before finishing the full prescribed course, it can cause a rebound effect, possibly resulting in your illness or infection being more difficult to treat than the original one. The reason is because the anitbiotics first kill the weaker bacteria, and then, as they begin to die off, you start to feel better, thinking you don't need to finish taking the rest of them.

But what actually happens is, the stronger bacteria that survived then begin to multiply, and you end up with an infection worse than the one you had to begin with, and more resistant to the antibiotics. So always take the full round of prescribed antibiotics, even if you feel like you are well and don't need them.
