Using information about the shepherds being out in the middle of the night, and information about the likely position and alignment of stars, they have determined that it is almost certain that he was not born on 25 December.

There has been some suggestion that Jesus was born on the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles. The fact that Jesus was born in a stall has been linked to the fact that, in Hebrew, stall also means tabernacle (succoth), while in John 1:14 it states that the Word (Christ) dwelt among us, which is saying He "tabernacled" among us.
