A term pregnancy is between 37 and 42 weeks form the start of the last period, that is 35-40 weeks from conception. The earlier a baby is born before this the more dangerous it is. Most babies born after 28 weeks will be ok but before that it gets a more problematical.

The youngest baby EVER to survive was around 22 weeks and 6 days, but I don't know how healthy she is.

The other variable is the health of the mother and baby before the birth. My Daughter had twin boys at 25 weeks, They were 1 lb 9oz and 1 lb 5oz. They were in the nicu for 3 months. They are now 8 months old and weigh 16 and 14 pounds. Myself and my husband now have custody of them. They are devolopmentally behind but are on time for their actual due date, they have acid reflux and have to take medicine for it. Because of the NICU experience my daughter never bonded with them. I just wanted you to see the leaps and bounds that the medical field is making in helping babies to make it. BTW, these are really GOOD babies and they are our pride and joy.

I started to get contractions at about 130am. and at 330am i went to the hospital cause they were 5 min apart. around 930am i was 3 and 1/2 cm and they gave me an epidural. i took a nap until 2pm. When i woke up i was 6 cm. they checked me again at 3pm and i was 9 and 1/2 cm. my daughter was born at 3:49pm. Typically your first child will take anywhere from 10-20 hours. its not uncommon for it to take longer. but rare for it to be shorter. hope this helps.

BTW. everyone is different.

There's nothing set in stone. Normally after 37 weeks a baby is concidered full term but could still have some unexpected complications. What is the earliest you can do a paternity test when pregnant?

It's safest to have it done after the baby is born. When you are pregnant, an amniocentesis has to be done and there is a possibility of miscarriage. It's not worth the risk, better to wait until the baby is born.

How early can you give birth in pregnancy?

I think the earliest baby that ever survived was 21 weeks? But babies born early are very sick and do not survive a lot of the time. The earliest that is normal to have the baby is 37 weeks, which will be about 3 weeks before you due date. I had my last baby at 35 weeks and he was 6lbs 9oz and very healthy. It's dangerous to have it earlier than that because the lungs haven't developed enough for the baby to breathe on its own.
