When starting a small photography business do you need to be bonded and if so how do you go about getting bonded?
If you are starting your own small photography business you shouldn't need to be bonded. When you get larger (if you get large enough) you may wish to consider some sort of professional liability insurance, but I've never known of a professional photographer to be bonded or have such insurance. Good luck.

Plumbers Insurance Plumbing contractors need: Commercial General Liability Bonding for the licensing bureau in their state Workers Compensation if they have employees Commer…cial auto if they have people driving for the work Being bonded means that there is money set aside should you forsome reason cause financial damage to a party you are performingwork for. Bonds are unlike insurance as if your bond is garnished, you must repay the bonding company that amount. Most states havecontractor licensing bureaus that dictate how much bonding isrequired to have a contractor license. You pay a bond premium(Cheap!) for the bond company to guarentee there will be payment ifthere is a small loss. Answer My answer will have to be general because this is another state tostate issue. There are different types of bonds. Contractors aregenerally required to provide a Bond in compliance with eitherfederal or state laws. Most often a License and Permit Bond will berequested by your state, municipal ordinance or local regulation asa condition precedent to the granting of a license to engage in aparticular business. If you are lucky your state may require a bondgenerally in the area of $10,000 - 25,000 limit. The requirementsare pretty specific regarding limits for your general liability andrelated coverages which may be state specific such as workerscompensation. You should be able to obtain those guildlines fromthe department which oversees General Contracting licenses. Yourbest option is to work with an agent who can better address yourspecific needs. Check with other contractors who may recommend anagent who is doing a good job for them. Keep in mind, your costwill be dependent upon a number of factors, including, but notlimited to how you are classified for insurance rating purposes. Aplumber who is heavily involved in sewer and underground work couldbe more expensive than a residential plumber who is primarily doingfaucets, water heaters and related work.
Answer . The first rule of thumb when you're starting out in business is CYA. Cover Your Assets. Bonding does exactly that. It says that if something goes terribly wrong, t…he bonding company will pay monetary damages to the other party.. For example, if you have a maid service, and one of your maids goes into a home...and breaks a valuable item -- the bonding company will pay. It's like insurance, in some respects.

Answer . Yep, You have to have insurance for everything. To be more specific, you need two types of insurance for a Home Watch business. You need general liability and you ne…ed Professional Liability, also called Errors and Omissions Insurance. . General Liability protects you while inside the home from pre-existing conditions and general risks such as a toilet that backs up while you are in the house. . Professional Liability is in case you miss something that you should have seen as a Home Watch Professional. Roof leaks that are clearly visible but that you missed would be covered by this 'errors and omissions' insurance. . The insurance is not easy to find.

Like any profession you need to be competent to do the job and in photography you do not need a license. Having proper qualifications will help in people having confidence in …your ability. A lot of amateur photographers think they can earn a living and some do go on to make it. The most important part of the game is not the photography but the way you handle people. You must have proven work to show clients and you need a large bank balance to purchase the professional equipment that you need. You will always need two camera bodies plus lenses. Lighting and professional flash equipment is a must. The last thing you need to consider is what side of the profession are you aiming at. Media photography, newspapers, magazines etc. are attractive but you will have to join a long queue. Advertising is a tough one to get into. If you can get a position with an established photographer that can help. Weddings, portrait and social photography you can do from home. Industrial is okay but you need some serious equipment for that branch of the business. But first get qualified.
