No it should not, I live in the Las Vegas area and only run it 8-10 hours per day. Even on the hottest days.

Use this product and run your filter even less

Normally the filtration equipment of a pool is drained to reduce the risk of water freezing in the equipment and wrecking it However of the water is not getting so cold that it freezes in the pipes you would be better of ruining it on filter You may as well keep the water as clean as possible

You can run a heat pump at night as long as the ambient air temperature is over 45 or 50 degrees. The lower the air temperature the less efficient the heat pump. Heat pumps convert energy from the surrounding air into heat for the pool. the warmer the ambient air temperature surrounding the heat pump the more energy efficient the heat pump is. Running your heat pump during the day is more efficient, than running the heat pump at night. Keeping a solar blanket on the pool when ever you are not swimming will help you maintain your pool heat.

We live in Kentucky where it does get mighty cold during the winter months. We ran our pool pump and filter system for the 1st time during the winter months of 2011 / 2012. The pump was left running for 3 hours on and 3 hours off which equaled 12 hours on and 12 hours off each day. We plan on doing the same again this coming winter months of 2012 / 2013. So far we've encountered only a small amount of icing on the very top surface of the pool which did not cause any problems.

Hope this helps you :-)

How long do you need to run your pool pump. There is a self chlorinator in the system. Salt water pool. Located in the Treasure Coast of Fl?

The amount of time the pump should run for any pool will depend on a few things. Hotter seaons will require your pump to run about 8 hours. Running your pump in hotter seaons also require that the pump runs during the hottest part of the day. You may cut the hours to about 6, or as low as 4 during winter. Please keep in mind "bather load" or heating the pool in the winter can effect the hours your pump should run. During winter pump should be ran at night to avoid freezing of pipes

Leaving steps in above ground pool over the winter?

You can leave pump out all winter PROVIDED it is completely void of all water and will not be exposed to freezing. It is advisable, as the pump is an expensive component, to disconnect pump and bring into garage. We have left out pump out many times and taken it in many times. We live in a climate that reaches below freezing maybe 30 - 45 days during winter.

How long does it normally take to drain the water from the pump when closing an in ground pool for the winter?

Draining the water from the "pump" (I'm assuming you mean the filter) should only take a few minutes. How long it would take to drain the water in the pool down to the winterization level would depend on the size of your pool and the pump you are using.
