she was the peoples princess because unlike the rest of the royal family, she was human, she wasn't devoid of any emotion. She could understand and symphthize with the people, and insisted to be treated just like them, telling her people to not call her "princess" all the time. Also she helped in many causes, charities, and used her status to bring awareness to many issues. By helping the world so much she is truly a "people's princess"..the first and only

She was the people's princess because she helped lots of people. She was seen probably more out all over the world than she was in the palace. That's how she got her name as the people's princess. Many people mourned her death for that reason.
