Harrison was sworn in as the 9th president in early 1841 and died after just under a month in office from pneumonia. He was the first president to die in office and was suceeded by John Tyler, his vice president, thereby establishing the "Tyler Precedent".

∙ 12y agoIt is about 2 hours long. It delves into Roman history, even the balance of power in ancient Greece, and lays out the Wig Party doctrine in painful detail. It turns out the voters had elected not a soldier or a statesman, but a grumpy 68 year old man, who had been trying to get elected since 1811, and who now considered the entire country to be a captive audience, like your crazy uncle who gets up to make a toast and then won't sit stop talking and sit back down. It was 90 minutes into the speech before he even mentioned what he intended to do in the future. And then he was short on details. He did promise to serve only one term, which turned out to be an optimistic view.
