The first ideas about creating the world trade centers began in 1946, when the project was first proposed. However initial plans weren't released until 1961. At this point planning was halted, for the construction required approval from not only the eager governor of New York, but also the unwilling Governor of New Jersey. Finally in 1966 an agreement was made between the involved parties, the two governors, the mayor of New York, the New York City Council and the construction company the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH). Shortly there after in 1966 groundbreaking of the construction began. For another four years construction on the two main towers continued, until on December 23 1970, the north tower's (Tower one) topping ceremony was held. The south tower's (tower two) topping ceremony was held nearly a year later on July 19, 1971. Finally the final ribbon cutting ceremony was held on April 4, 1973 at which point the towers were officially opened.
First exhibited in 1939 at the Worlds Fair in New York the idea of the World Trade Center towers was presented with the concept of "World piece through trade." The construction began in February of 1967 but did not complete until 1973 with the official ribbon cutting ceremony taking place on the 4th of April 1973.
The ground breaking for the World Trade Center was held on August 5, 1966. One World Trade Center (the North Tower) was ready for its first tenants in late 1970, though the upper stories were not completed until 1972; Two World Trade Center was finished in 1973. The buildings were officially dedicated at ribbon cutting ceremony on April 4, 1973
