The Book of Mormon was written between 600 B.C. and 400 A.D. It begins with a prophet named Lehi, a contemporary of Jeremiah, in Jerusalem. He and his family travel to the Americas to avoid the prophesied Babylonian Captivity. The Book of Mormon is a record of their decendants until the time that only one righteous man, Moroni, remains. He buries the record in 400 A.D.

Those who believe the Book of Mormon is true and not a fabrication believe that Joseph Smith was lead to the place where the record was buried by Moroni himself, who had returned as an angel. Joseph Smith then translated the record into the Book of Mormon by the power of God. The majority of the translation took place in the late spring of 1929, with the first edition of the Book coming off the presses in early 1830.

The first edition of the Book of Mormon was published by Joseph Smith, Jr. and printed by E. B. Grandin in Palmyra New York.

The Book of Mormon is currently published by several groups. The most common editions are printed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Other current printings are available through various other religious groups who also use the book, such as the Community of Christ and Church of Christ (Temple Lot). Current printings available from independent groups (not religious organizations) are published by Herald Heritage, Zarahemla Research Foundation, Bookcraft, University of Illinois Press, Doubleday, Stratford Books, Penguin Classics, and Yale University Press.

The Book of Mormon was first published in early 1830, prior to the official organization of the Church of Jesus Christ in New York on April 6 of that year. Joseph Smith was originally listed as "author" (following the publishing conventions of the day), although it is clear from his own writings that he actually translated the plates which comprised the Book of Mormon, and only with divine assistance. The actual writers of the Book of Mormon are the prophets whose names are found in the books bearing their names, such as Nephi, Alma, Mormon, and Moroni. Mormon, one of the last two prophets to write in the book, was also chiefly responsible for compiling the portion that was ultimately published, abridging a veritable library of records that were kept throughout the history that the book describes.

According to WikipediaThe Book of Mormon is a sacred text of the churches of the Latter Day Saint movement. It was first published in March 1830 by Joseph Smith, Jr. as The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi.[1] According to Smith, the book was originally written in otherwise unknown characters referred to as "reformed Egyptian" on golden plates that he discovered in 1823 and then translated. The plates, Smith said, had been buried in a hill near his home in Manchester, New York, where he found them by the guidance of an angel named Moroni.

The full name of the book actually is THE BOOK OF MORMON (With the subtitle) Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

The Mormon Church teaches that the Book of Mormon was written by a series of ancient people, the first of whom was Nephi, and that it was finally redacted and compiled by Mormon.
Others say it was written by Joseph Smith around 1830, possibly assisted by Oliver Cowdery.

If Joseph Smith wrote the Book of Mormon, as some scholars have inferred, he did so shortly before its publication in 1830. However the Mormon Church insists that he only translated the books from gold plates brought to him by an angel.

What book in The Book Of Mormon is the same as Genisus?

There is no book in the Book of Mormon that is the same as Genesis. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) use the Bible, so there is no need to duplicate it in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Moses in the Pearl of Great Price is similar. It is not exactly the same because it has more detail. The Pearl of Great Price is also considered a book of scripture in the Church, in addition to the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the Doctrine & Covenants. You can compare the books at the "Related Link" below.
