In 1950

If referring to pioneers in the Americas after the voyages of Columbus, there are no well kept records. The Spanish settled in the western Americas and other Europeans

settled on the east coast in the early 1600's. Any daring settlers arriving in the 1500's are the truest pioneers but there is no written history. Water powered mills existed in Maine and Nova Scotia c1610, a wind powered gristmill existed in Jamestown, VA c1612.
