"The Time Machine was first published in 1895 and later directly adapted into at least two theatrical films of the same name as well as at least one television and a large number of comic book adaptations. It also indirectly inspired many more works of fiction in all media. Considered by many to be one of the greatest science fiction novels of all time, this 38,000 word novella describes time travel using a vehicle that allows an operator to travel purposefully and selectively. The term "time machine", coined by Wells, is now universally used to refer to such a vehicle."

hope this helps! the time machine by H.G. Wells is a science fiction novel about a protagonist referred to as The Time Traveller. he travells into the year 802701 and discovers a new species called the Eloi. then the Time Traveller encounters the carnivorous Morlocks, who FEED on the Eloi. ( they are both descendants of the human race) the Morlocks steal the time machine from where it was parked, and the Traveller later finds out that the Morlocks have the machine. they try to lure the traveller into their lair with the time machine, not knowing that the traveller will use it to escape. The traveller escapes then and flees into the future, where he sees a horrible future yet to come: a dying Earth with simple crab like creatures and simple vegetation as the only inhabitants of Earth. he returns to his lab and discusses with his unbelieving workmates. he then glides into the future again and then sees a world inhabited with furry, hopping little herbivores. they seem to be descendants of the human race. the traveller spots a giant centipede-type animal and flees to the next day, where he sees the dead carcass of the furry, hopping herbivore. he returns to his lab.

the book then ends with the author not telling what happened to the traveller.
