Google doesn't provide advance notice when it will update an area but it now shows a list of cities by country where the Google vehicles are currently driving. However, there are "unofficial" plans for new countries considered for Street View Photography listed in wikipedia including parts of South America and eastern Europe.
In June 2011 Google made the largest update to Street View imagery to-date which updated/added to 13 countries that already had some degree of Street View imagery, including Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Romania, South Africa, Taiwan, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

How can I find out when the next time Google Earth is taking a photo of my location?
Google continuous captures street imagery in many cites around the world for Street View available in both Google Earth and Google Maps.You won't get advance notice when Google is taking pictures of a particular street unless you actually see the Google Street View car driving down the street. However, Google does provide the list of cities where Google cars are currently driving in. See related link below.
Why is there no zoom in Google Earth Street View version 6?
In the redesign of Street View in Google Earth 6.0 the zoom capability found in the previous version was removed. A number of users have asked for this feature back so stay tuned to see if it appears in the next version. Google Earth 6.2 has brought back a zoom feature in Street View using the mouse scrool-wheel to zoom in/out. Google Maps has a zoom feature in Street View as well as other features (e.g. 3D mode) not found in Google Earth.

Why can't you see yourself on Google Maps?
It varies on the location of the individual, technically there are so many people in the world that it's hard to find yourself, especially on google maps and google earth.AdditionallyIn particular the satellite imagery isn't of high enough resolution to make out individuals, but Google's Street View imagery is. That's the reason faces are automatically detected and blurred by Google but finding yourself in such an image is like finding a needle in a very big haystack. If, however, you notice a Google Street View car going by (with a Google logo on the side and a large camera on the roof) and make note of the location then you could search that location over the next year to see if the street view imagery at that location happened to be updated. Just because a Google car passed you doesn't guarantee it was filming at that moment, but chances are good.

It is located at 777 South Mission Road in Los Angeles, CAIt is located on S. Mission Rd. directly across from the Waste Management buildings. The address is: 791 South Mission Road Los Angeles, CA 90023-1012. It is in the old Super King Warehouse. The Mission Rd as well as E 7th Pl, is not accessible via google's street view. Also, google earth does not give an updated aerial view of the building. However, if you go on the Santa Monica Freeway via google's street view, you can see the building fairly updated with the remodeled Dyrdek Enterprises walls. Other than the blue fence surrounding the property there doesn't seem to be any main security. The imagery on average is 3 years old and Google usually doesn't announce when an area will be updated but it does announce when new imagery is available.You can sign up to be notified when your location has been updated using Google's 'Follow Your World' notification service.

The imagery in Google Earth is on average 3 years old so you won't see a recent event immediately on Google Earth and the chance of seeing any particular short term event like a wedding is next to impossible. Google Street View imagery tends to be relatively more recent but again very little chance the a Street View car was capturing imagery at a given location and time of any particular event. How come you can not see people in the google satellite images or maps?
Google imagery is updated often and even if a plane is caught in flight on a given image -the next update for that area will no longer have the plane. Google Earth is more suited for seeing planes in flight especially with its 'Historical Imagery' so you can return to a particular place and time to see a plane caught in flight.The short answer is that you can see planes in flight on Google Maps and Google Earth. The long answer is that I am sure Google data is pulled from both satellite data and "flown" images. Flown images are taken at lower altitude so commercial planes are likely routed over the one taking the images.
