No one knows when Jesus was born, not even the Angels in Heaven. Here's what the scripture says about his birth "Unto you THIS day a savior is born in the City of David. It says THIS Day it did not specify WHAT day. Man made January and December his birthday which is a Pagan Holiday. If anyone believes Christ was born on the 25th Day of December is a LIE. Read your Bible and stop taking people word for it.

Both the day and year of the Christians' Jesus' birth are unknown.

Scholars point to the reference to the presence of shepherds in fields to indicate that it was unlikely to have happened in the winter. This is further supported by the Qur'an's reference to Mary eating fresh dates before the birth. There is some thought that the celebration of the birth near the winter solstice allowed early Christians to utilize a date already recognized as special by other religions

As for the year the date was arbitrarily set in the Middle Ages. It may be off by several years in either direction.

The book "Jesus Christ Our Promised Seed" lays out this answer in full form, because it takes a lot of research an discussion. However, I can give you a excerpt that will help:

How can we identify the day on which Jesus was born? We actually utilize an interesting passage from one of the most enigmatic books of The Bible, the book of Revelation.

Revelation 12:1-5

And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

As we have mentioned in previous chapter, we have narrowed Jesus' birth to sometime in late summer of 3 BC. We get this from the date of the Silver Jubilee, as well as the lunar eclipse preceding Herod's death. It turns out that the wonder in heaven mentioned in Revelation 12 did occur in late summer of 3 BC, on Tishri 1 of the Hebrew calendar, between 6 and 8 PM. It is the only time that this specific wonder (Virgo clothed with the Sun and the moon under her feet) occurred in the night sky during 3 BC.

What is the significance of Tishri 1? As Dr. Wierwille notes in Jesus Christ Our Promised Seed, Tishri 1 was the day of kings and the day of trumpets. We know it today as Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. In ancient times, the reign of Hebrew kings was reckoned from Tishri 1 to Tishri 1, regardless on when their reigns actually began or ended. Isn't it tremendous that the king of kings was born of the day of kings? Still more, isn't it astounding that he was born in the beginning of the day from the Hebrew perspective (since the new day began at 6 PM, not 12 midnight for the Hebrews)? In our culture, I find it fascinating that Tishri 1, 3 BC was September 11th in our calendar system. What tremendous accuracy that we can know the date of birth of our Savior to within two hours!

For a thorough investigation that show that the birth of Jesus could very well have occurred on December 25, see the link below:

Another Answer:

Today, most Encyclopedias, Commentaries, and other Biblical Scholarly writings, will present a solid case for Jesus being born in the late Autumn of 5-4 BC. Besides the Shepherds in the fields, the Annual Festivals of God (Tabernacles and Trumpets), the logic of Roman rule for the Census convenience, a close study of John the Baptist's fathers Temple order and time of duty for him in 6-5 BC, it is reasonable to believe John was born in March-April 5BC and Jesus was born 6 months afterwards (mid Sept to mid Oct) - the beginning of the New Year.

It can be said that history depends upon the views of the writers and can/does differ depending on who/where/when one writes/reads it. Take this quote as an example:

The New Catholic Encyclopedia acknowledges: "The date of Christ's birth is not known. The Gospels indicate neither the day nor the month . . . the pagan devotees of Mithra celebrated the dies natalis Solis Invicti (birthday of the invincible sun). On Dec. 25, 274, Aurelian had proclaimed the sun-god principal patron of the empire and dedicated a temple to him in the Campus Martius. CHRISTMAS originated at a time when the cult of the sun was particularly strong at Rome."-(1967), Vol. III, p. 656.

We actually do not know the actual day of Jesus' birth. It's not in the Bible, which is the Word of God. Jesus is the SAVIOUR of this sinful world. When you accept Him into your heart as your Lord and personal Saviour, you will be saved. Read your bible and study it and go and tell others about Jesus so they may also be saved and have eternal salvation with Yeshua Jesus Christ in Heaven!!! He is the only answer. John 3:16
