There are numerous parts to every Accordion with the treble keyboard, bass keyboard and bellows being the main components. There are also a number of subdivisions within the treble and bass keyboard for example the accordion reeds which produce sound when air is blown through them causing them to vibrate. Larger accordions are usually accompanied with couplers which are used to change the music quality by simply pressing these buttons and are located between the treble keyboard and bellows.

Accordions manley come from Italy, Germany, and the United States of America and now some cheap models from China. But the best are either Italian or German depending on what type of music you want to play on them. There 48bass models which would suit a learner right up to 120bass models for more advanced players. The most famous home of the accordion is in Castelfidado in Italy which has been making accordions for centuries. Then there are the manufactures in Germany where Hohner models are made. And there is Scandalli which are made in the USA along with specialist makes for professions. The most popular accordions are those with piano keys on the right hand, and buttons on the left. Then there are all button accordions which are called Chromatics which are B/C tuned types. Then there are the melodion type of accordion with a single shoulder strap. These are mainly played up north and in Scotland in accordion and fiddle clubs. Then there is the Bandoneon which was manufactured in the thirties for the Argentinian tango bands and clubs. Then last of all there are the Concertina of which there are two types Continental tuned and the Wheatstone English tuned models with various tones and sizes etc. So there we are a brief rundown of the accordion family. Hope this helps the person who has asked the question.

How many different kinds of accordions are there?

Various types of accordions exist with chromatic, diatonic and piano accordions the most common. Buttons on chromatic accordions play the same note on the push/pull direction of the bellows where buttons on diatonic accordions play two different notes depending on the bellows direction. Chromatic accordions can be categorized into two types: continental and British chromatic accordions. The main difference between British and continental chromatic accordions is that the British chromatic accordion has a Stradella bass layout. This bass layout is standard on all piano accordions. Additionally there are two more types of continental chromatic accordions such as the B and C system. The B system is popular in Eastern Europe, especially Russia, where it is known as the bayan accordion. The C system is popular amongst Western European accordion players.

Is there a stable market for accordions?

There is certainly a stable market for accordions with these musical instruments enjoying an increase in popularity today. Other types of accordions such as electronic accordions became very popular in the 1990s following the arrival of M.I.D.I. (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) which allowed these hybrid instruments to be replaced by electronic versions, with the addition of MIDI interfaces. Although the accordion is not as popular worldwide as it was back in the early half of the 19th Century, this instrument has found a renewed interest in modern society with accordions forming an integral role in bands such as Those Darn Accordions. Such exposure has helped to bring the accordion back into the minds of music lovers.
