Video and Music Pirates
The term "pirate" is applied to people who illegally copy and sell copyrighted music or videos. They make money by selling "bootleg" copies without the proper payment of royalties, which in most countries is a criminal offense.
They're criminals at sea basically.. The hijack other ships steal whatever they want take hostages sometimes and if they want they just might kill you. And yes, pirates STILL exist just not in the Pirates of the Caribbean style they have modern ships and modern weapons
People who sail in ships and steal ship and money etc (sounds like fun)
The Barbary Pirates or the Ottoman Corsairs
The Barbary Corsairs, sometimes called the Ottoman Corsairs or Barbary Pirates, were pirates that raided American, African, and European countries' coasts. They were part of the Ottoman Empire's Barbary States and were a major part of the Slave Selling by kidnapping over 1.5 million Christians to sell as slaves.
The term "Barbary Corsairs" is just another term meaning "Barbary Pirates" who were a group of privateers from Moracco, Algeirs, Tripoli, and Tunis. They pillaged ships in the Mediterranean Sea and demanded tribute be paid or else the crew would be captured and most likely made slaves.

Julius Caesar led a Roman naval team against pirates who were impeding trade in the Mediterranean. When he caught them he had them crucified. "Barbary Corsairs" refers to pirates based in Algeria who were active in the Mediterranean and as far the waters round the British Isles in the 17th century - 1600 years later than JC. The US Marine song that refers to the "shores of Tripoli" is about the western naval effort to finally stop these pirates in the 18th century.
Corsairs were the pirates in mostly the 16th to 18th century, holding a king's commission to attack and rob ships. They were private persons (several famous later admirals started out as corsairs) but their commission only covered ships of a country that their king was at war with. If they were in turn caught by the enemy, they were on their own. If they were succesful they could use their counties' harbors as safe havens and were expected to pay part of their loot or its proceeds into the country's or the King's coffers.
