∙ 11y agoIn Spain there are four Basque provinces, three of which form the autonomous community of the Basque country. They are Araba, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa. The fourth province is Nafarroa which has its own autonomic status and forms the Chartered Community of Navarre. These provinces form the so-called South Basque country or Spanish Basque country.
In France there are three provinces: Lapurdi, Behe Nafarroa and Zuberoa. These last provinces form the so-called North Basque country or French Basque country.
Historically it has been said that there are seven provinces but some people consider Nafarroa an Behe Nafarroa a single making a total of six.
Apart from that it's controversial to state that Nafarroa is a basque province due to pollitical conflicts rather than cultural or social conflicts.
