A Remington 700 bolt will work fine in a 722 action. No modification required. Even the swept back 700 bolt handle fits. Head space checks should be done of course. This option was exercised quite often here in Australia as the cost of replacing 722 extractors became prohibitive. Many 722 / 721 rifles in this country have been using aftermarket 700 bolts for years, mine included (222). There are quite a few custom 700 bolt makers around. I would contact one of them for a chat.

How do you remove the bolt from Remington 722?
The Remington 700 series of rifles have a couple of ways to remove the bolt. If you DON'T have a release just in front of the trigger that you must push up when drawing the bolt rearward, then you need to insert a small, thin blade screwdriver into the left rear of the stock between the receiver and the back of the stock to activate (push forward) the bolt stop. While doing that, pull the bolt backward and it will come out of the receiver.
