Typically available at any grocery store. But most chefs will tell you that if you wouldn't drink it, you shouldn't cook with it. Most of the cooking wines have additional additives and salt in them.
The one extra thing to know about this is that sometimes the wines you like to drink most are the least appropriate for cooking. Big oaky and tannic cabs can be too much when reduced. Sometimes syrah can be too "grape-like".
You want to make sure the flavors are appropriate for your meal. You may want to check out these guys: www.academiewines.com. I like the idea they've got going: great wines at a good price point that are blended for different types of cooking, but also great to drink.
Good luck finding your cooking wine!

Malt vinegar, white wine vinegar, white spirit vinegar. Spirit vinegar doesn't taste as good as any of the brewed vinegars. The closest substitute is probably white wine vinegar mixed with an equal quantity of apple juice. Failing that, mix apple juice with malt vinegar. Red wine vinegar would give a taste that you might not want.
