To locate the model number of the machine you will need to lift the machine (from the front) out of its base and tilt it back and away from you. Once the machine is tilted back a bit, you will be able to see a sticker on the machine that has the model and serial number. The model # will begin with 3 numbers, followed by a period and then some additional numbers. For example, my sears kenmore model # is 148.12030 (by the way, the numbers on the motor of my sewing machine is also 5188, as well as YM-40-3).
