It's possible that at least seven pairs of the Ruby Slippers were made, for the movie. Four are accounted for. One is on permanent exhibition at the National Museum of American History in D.C. The other three are owned by private collectors Philip Samuels and David Elkouby. In addition, two other pairs of Ruby Slippers were made for, but never used in, the film. One is a curled toe pair owned by actress Mary Frances ka Debbie Reynolds [b. April 1, 1932]. The other is a curled toe pair owned by Richard Thorpe [February 24, 1896-May 1, 1991]. And as part of the commemoration of the film's 50th anniversary, the Western Costume Company was granted sole authorization to make Ruby Slipper reproductions. The commemorative slippers were very very close to being identical to the original slippers of 1939.
