Conscription was introduced in 1939 for all unmarried men aged 21 and over, they had to complete 3 months of military training. Due to the fear of invasion from the japenese in 1942 all men aged 18-35 and all single men aged 35-45 were called up for 6months military service. Conscripts were only allowed to fight in Australia and in the SWPZ (south west pacific zone) which included Australia, new guinia and the Philippines.
