Somewhat easy to do. You can see it from the top of the engine. You'll have to get at it from underneath. A few bolts, a few elect. connections. Make sure you disconnect the batt first! To remove starter on a 96 Cavalier with a 2.4L engine 1.Disconnect battery 2.Disconnect air inlet duct from throttle body. 3.Remove top starter bolt. 4.Raise and safely support car. 5.From under the car remove second starter bolt. 6.Remove the wiring from the solenoid. To install starter 1. Connect wiring to solenoid 2. Put starter in position and put the 1st bolt in from top of engine and tighten 3. Put starter bolt in the 2nd bolt and tighten. 4.Connect air inlet duct. Connect battery
It is attached to the starter.
It is bolted to top of starter.
Assume you mean starter solenoid; most GM starters have the solenoid built in. To change it, just replace the starter.
Follow the + battery cable its the small part of the starter where the wires hook up
