There are schools all over the United States and around the world. If you Google "cooking schools", "chef schools"', "culinary schools", and similar terms, you might be able to find one close to where you live or the area where you would like to work. There are also colleges and academies offering courses in the culinary arts.

As a "professional" cook, I have found the best experience to be just that - experience! Formal school training is OK, but you may find that within the food industry, most cooks have learned by seat of the pants from other cooks. Cheffing is a little different since you would more than likely apprentice under another chef and work your way up through the ranks. Many restaurant chefs today are executive chefs, in that they are mostly concerned with kitchen operation, recipe ordinances and staffing.

On-the-job training is most common for fast-food cooks, short-order cooks, and food preparation workers. Chefs and others with more advanced cooking duties often attend cooking school. Vocational training programs are available to many high school students, but advanced positions usually require training after high school. Experience, an ability to develop and enhance cooking skills, and a strong desire to cook are the most common requirements for advancement.

There are so many different schools you can attend when you want to become a chef. Before enrolling in college, you must first decide what you want out of a college and how far away you are willing to travel to attend said college. One great culinary arts school is Le Cordon Bleu.
