Coolant is held in closed cavities, built into the engine block and cylinder head.

Connections to this closed system, lead water through a radiator and back into the block. A pump and thermostat are included in the radiator system, to ensure correct flow and temperature regulation.

You check and 'top up' coolant at a transparent bottle connected to the radiator via a single pipe. This is an expansion chamber, to allow for the changes in volume during heating and cooling.
