The Pharaoh Amenhopet IV, later self renamed as Akhenaten or Ikhnaton, ruled from a city he build for the adoration of Aton (or Aten). This city became the capital of Egypt, but was destroyed after Ikhnaton's death.
That sacred city, erected in the middle of the desert and burned by the inclement sun, was the place where he lived to the end of his reign of 17 years.
It was called Akhetaten (or Akhetaton), today commonly known as Tell-el Amarna.
