Anne Frank lived with her parents, Otto and Edith Frank, and her older sister, Margot, in the Secret Annex in Amsterdam during World War II. They were joined by four other Jewish individuals who were hiding from the Nazis.
Anne Frank's family originally lived in Frankfurt Germany. They moved to Amsterdam in 1933 when the Nazi's took over Germany.
In 1940, at the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, the family went into hiding at their father's business on Prinsengracht, in Amsterdam. Within two years of their hiding in a small series of attic rooms, they were discovered. Anne and her sister Margot were transferred to the infamous concentration camp Bergen-Belsen, where they died of typhus in 1945.

They lived in what is called the secret annex above a work building. They were caught and taken to Westerbork on August 4, 1944. Then, a month later they were transported to Auschwitz. Anne died of TB there in early march 1945.
