Freddy Kruger was a child killer, known as The SpringWood Slasher. He was sent to trial for the murders but got off on a technicality (Because of lack of a warrant). Rather than let him go free, the parents hunted him down to the boiler room/basement of the local elementary school where he used to take his victims. They burned him in the boiler room but kept his glove as a reminder.

In the original films, Freddy was just a child killer, not a molester/pedophile. At first, writer/director Wes Craven planned on making him a pedophile, but after awhile he changed his mind and decided against it. This idea was resurrected -- against Craven's wishes -- in the new 2010 remake. The new remakes portray Freddy as both a molester and killer, and the school has been renamed to Bedham Preschool, where he was a groundskeeper who lived in the basement.

To give you a little history on Freddy's early life... His mother was a nun (Sister Mary Helena, but later called Amanda), and worked at Our Lady Of Sorrows mental Asylum ran by the church. AFter going in to give food to the worst of the inmates, she was accidently locked in the asylum by a guard and was repeatedly rapped by 100s of crazies (Freddy is taunted as The Son Of 100 Maniacs as a young boy). Like all serial killers he was abused, neglected and enjoyed killing animals and worked his way up to killing people

Freddy Krueger was a child murderer accused of murdering at least 20 children a decade prior to the setting of A Nightmare on Elm Street. After he was released from prison on a technicality, the angry parents of Springwood, OH (the fictional setting of the movie) burned him alive in the boiler room he used for a hideout. His dying words are that he will haunt them in their dreams.

Wes Craven says his inspiration for the basis of Freddy's power stemmed from several stories in the L.A Times about a series of mysterious deaths: All the victims had reported recurring nightmares beforehand, and died in their sleep. Inspiration for the character himself included a school bully he encountered during his youth, a homeless man who scared him when he was eleven and a 1970's song called Dream Weaver.

freddy kruger was a school care taker who never knew his father as his mother was raped in an asylum by rapists and murders...in the first movie in the Nightmare On Elm Street series Krueger's back-story is revealed by the first victim Nancy's mother, who explains he was a child murderer whom the parents of Springwood killed after Krueger was acquitted of police charges on a technicality. Nancy defeats Krueger by pulling him from the dream world into the real world, and setting up a series of Booby_traps, finally stripping him of his powers when she stops being afraid of him.

He was created by Wes Craven. He is mainly inspired by a homeless man who would terrorize Wes when he was a child and he reportedly wore a striped sweater, but he was not burnt or anything, just creepy. The name as I recall came from a friend of his.

Is Freddy Krueger based on a true story?

The Freddy Krueger character is not based on any real-life serial killer, no. Wes Craven got the idea for the character from a homeless man who scared him really badly when he was a kid. The man wore a similar sweater and hat as Freddy. Craven was hanging out in his room, when he noticed that this vagrant on the street below was standing there, staring in the window at him. The man stood there staring at him for a really long time, which would be creepy for anyone, much less a small child.

Who made the Freddy Krueger rhyme?
