He broke just one leg.

After shooting the President, Booth leaped over the ledge of and out of the State Box (a room inside the theater, with front opening view of the stage.), and snagged the spur of one of his boots on a flag posted along the parameter of the opening, and as he was aiming his land for the stage, the snag broke his landing to a fall.

Some Historians speculate he broke his leg, later in the evening, when he fell from his horse.

Of the thirteen witnesses at the theater that I know of, not one said he broke his leg. Not one said he limped off. They all said he ran to the rear exit. John Wilkes Booth did not break his leg. He may have sprained it and he may have had a minor fracture.

After he left the Theater he went across the Washington Street Bridge (Navel Yard Bridge) using the password given him by Vice-president Johnson. He then went to Mary Surratt's tavern to pick up supplies and then off he and Harold went to Dr. Mudd's house. Dr. Mudd was a friend and he treated booth's hurt leg. Later Booth went to San Francisco to visit his mother and brother. Booth was 68 when he died from arsenic poisoning.

John Wilkes Booth was a "man on the run". He was the subject of the "greatest manhunt in US history" up to that time. He met his own death about 2 days later by commiting suicide in a hotel in Texas(recently still there but now a furniture store).

actually i don't think that's true. i love American history and what ive always known is that he was cornered in a barn or somehtign that caught fire. and although he didnt make it out of the fire, the police had also fired shots so he had been shot as well. i don't remmeber which one actually killed him but i think he was shot before the fire consumed him so im almost sure that's how it played out.
