After the visit by the three wise men, Joseph and Mary fled to Egypt.

Another Answer:

The Scripture NEVER stays that there were 3 Wise Men but like in Matthew 2:1 we read, "Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold WISE MEN (plural: 2 or more) from the East (Greek word is 'ton anatolon' meaning 'Far East') came to Jerusalem...' The end of verse 2 uses a different Greek word for 'East' as 'te anatole' which means west of the Magi or Parthian Empire 250 BC - 226 AD. Strange as it might sound but the Lost 10 Tribes of Israel from the Assyrian dispersion of 721-718 BC were in this area at that time as Josephus Flavius notes. It is in the Caspian Sea area. So if Christ came 1st to the Jews and then to the Lost House of Israel, wouldn't it seem appropriate that the Magi or representatives of the 10 Lost Tribes came to honor their King? Food for thought :)

Now this is interesting too as it is never taught in mainstream christianity. In Matthew 2:13-14 when the angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream saying, "Arise, take the YOUNG CHILD (not an INFANT) and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the YOUNG CHILD to destroy Him. Indeed Herod determined when the star appeared (Matthew 2:7) and ordered all males 2 YEARS or younger killed. He had information that the child might be a toddler so he slaughtered all he could to avoid a 'new' KING to his throne. Josephus mentions this in his, 'Antiquities of the Jews, XVII, VI, 4 putting this date about 13 March 4 BC due to the Lunar Eclipse then. If Jesus was born in Autumn 5BC as many Scholars believe, then Jesus was a toddler and NOT AN INFANT. So much for the Manger imagery that is dividing this nation.
