Archaeological evidence suggests the earliest agriculture was practiced around modern day Iraq (Middle East), probably around 8000 years ago. The earliest town to develop that we know of was Mohenjo-daro. It presumably began with people collecting wild plants, and gradually acting to encourage those they wanted while pruning unwanted ones.
The next ares to develop agriculture are believed to be Egypt and China, possibly closely followed by the Olmec.
