On the Tower Green, an executioner used a sharpened sword, (instead of the traditional axe,) to decapitate the Queen of England. It is reported that, after Anne was blindfolded, the executioner called out for his sword, in order to distract her into believing she had time before her death. Then, he allegedly produced it from under a pile of straw and sliced her head off in a single stroke. This is assumed to have been done not out of cruelty, but solely to prevent her the fear of an impending death.

Anne Boleyn was beheaded at Tower Green which was very near to the Tower of London.

A monument stands there today in memory of the people executed on that site.
