Edward Theodore "Ed" Gein was an American serial killer and grave robber. Ed Gein, known as The Butcher of Plainfield, gained notoriety in the 1950s for murdering at least two women and for committing grisly, fetishistic acts on corpses stolen from graves. He was sent to Waupan State Hospital because he seemed insane. He died of cancer in 1984.

At his trial, Ed Gein was found mentally unfit and committed to a state mental hospital. Gein's mother was a religious fanatic and was incredibly strick and harsh. Gein's father was not much better. Gein had one brother and they lived on the same plot of land for many years. His family members died off one by one until he eventually lived in the old farm house by himself. The solitude probably didn't help an already sick mind.

Yes, he also made masks, clothes, suits, bowls, furniture, and tools out of the skin and bones. His total body count is actually very low because he didn't actually kill that many people. He stole corpses from the cemetery. He inspired the movies "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Psycho", but they were only loosely based on his life.

He lived in an 160-Acre Farm Seven Miles Outside Plainfield, Wisconsin. Most of the bodies found in the farm were robed corpses from the graveyard. When he started killing, his first victim was Mary Hogan which he shot her in the head with his 32-caliber revolver at Hogan's Tavern and took her home.

Then came Bernice Worden which he killed in her hardware store on Plainfield's Main Street. He took her home after that. The other corpses found at the kill farm were bodies stolen from the graveyard over a ten year period before started killing.
