The place where the first military action of the Revolutionary War began was Lexington, Massachusetts, in April of 1775. Located some 20 miles northeast of Boston, Lexington witnessed Colonial "minutemen" gathering to stage a protest of approaching "Redcoats". Shots were fired and the colonists soon scattered, but further conflict occurred soon after -- and the war had undeniably begun.
