He was born in "Black" Transkei, Africa on July 18, 1918.
He lived in a number of places including Algeria where he organized military training to fight Apartheid. When he returned from Algeria he was arrested for trying to overthrow the South African Government and thrown in prison for 28 years.
During Nelson Mandela's jail time he had secret talks with South Africa's president, P.W. Botha, and his successor, F.W. de Klerk. As a result, in 1990 he was freed.

This constitution states that racial discrimination it is against the law
He retired in 1999 and returned to the town where he was born.
